"Mom, I think I might be a Medium."

“What? Honey, you may want to see a doctor for that!”

If you’re reading this you may be wondering if you might be a spirit medium. Everyone’s path to mediumship is unique, just like you. Natural mediums are born with the gift of being able to communicate with loved ones on the other-side. It’s not something you become or necessarily choose, but rather it’s a natural ability you are born with.

As souls having a human experience, we all have the ability to speak to God and spirit to some degree, but just like some people seem to have a natural gift for sports or music, the same can be said of those born with the ability to communicate with the spirit world. These people are spirit mediums.

The gift of mediumship can show itself at any age, not just during childhood. For some, the latent gift emerges after significant life events such as trauma or loss, and for others, it may be something they experience as a child. I have many friends and colleagues who have told me they became aware of their gifts after car accidents and even the loss of a loved one such as a parent, sibling, or child.

My own journey with spirit began as a child. I can remember being embraced by the loving presence of the spirit world as they lulled me to sleep at night with dancing lights around my room. As a young adult and even now, slightly more mature with some silver highlights, I sometimes awaken to find spirit figures watching over me in the night. But it wasn’t until I finished college, as a young adult, that I gave myself permission to explore this calling and began taking psychic and mediumship development classes.

Throughout my life my friends in spirit have been kind enough to gently guide me on my path. Other times, I have heard the voice of spirit, warning me if I might be in danger. And still at other times, they have shown their presence just when I needed it most, reassuring me that everything will be OK, even if I don’t know the outcome.

I now know the spirit world is not some far off place, but rather all around us. And for those of us who are sensitive we can feel, see, hear, and even smell the presence of spirit. Sometimes I think this gift truly is best developed by learning to see the world through the lens of the soul, rather than our thinking mind.

If you find yourself wondering if you might have the ability to connect with loved ones on the other-side, here are some signs that suggest you may indeed be a medium.

You Might Be A Medium if You:

· Often have dreams or premonitions that come true

· Have seen or sensed the presence of loved ones in spirit around you

· Had an imaginary friend as a child

· Have seen spirit lights or deceased loved ones with the physical eye or in your mind’s eye

· Feel the energy in a room, building or historic site where significant events have occurred

· Feel drawn to and have a natural curiosity for spiritual teachings, the paranormal, and tools such as tarot, angel cards, crystals, astrology and more

· Unexplainably know things about people, without the person telling you

· Have a lot of weird experiences with electronics, cell phones, radios, or lights turning on or off seemingly by themselves

· Have very vivid and lucid dreams, including visitations from loved ones who have passed

· Have other family members who have talked about seeing or sensing the presence of spirit

I can’t say I by any means understand all of the workings of the spirit world; I’m not sure anyone can until they actually cross over. But I can say that I’m honored to be working with spirit and striving to better understand and develop these gifts to help others. I am very fortunate to have studied, and continue to study, with some wonderful teachers here and at Arthur Findlay Spiritualist College in England.

Like the journey of life, I think of mediumship as something that is eternally unfolding. As we grow and change over time, with nurturing and a sincere desire to better understand the nature of our own soul and the spirit world, perhaps our mediumship does as well.

I’m not the same person I was five or 10 years ago, and likewise, I am not sure who I will be or how my mediumship will evolve five or 10 years from now. But one thing I do believe is that the calling we feel within our soul is often a reflection of who we are meant to be or what we may be meant to experience. If you find yourself curious about mediumship and connecting with loved ones on the other-side, why not give yourself permission to further explore these potential gifts.
